You all know I love meeting small, artisanal producers, passionate and in love with what they do. You've seen me many times in garage-sized cellars, among the few bottles produced. Today, for the first time, I meet a producer with over a million bottles, with a range that spans from the most commercial and affordable line, including kegs, to the premium range, specifically dedicated to the HORECA sector and gifts.
What unites the producer with less than a thousand bottles to the Dalfiume Nobilvini winery, however, is passion and sincerity.
Here too, I find a sense of belonging and dedication to work, while the very young Davide Jr. accompanies me on a tour of the facility.
In his words and his attentive gaze, I find family pride and tradition, and respect for the values that are still passed down in this part of the world.
The Dalfiume family has been dedicated to winemaking since 1949.
Over seventy years of passion and determination have seen the company and family histories merge to the point of becoming one, during which a dream has become the shared endeavor of three generations.
"We have sought to transform the finest expressions and values of our courageous and hospitable land into a business, making them a heritage for all. In making our wines, we forget the passage of time. Dedication and commitment—expressed season after season, year after year—lead us to ongoing challenges, fueled by pure passion, which thus guarantee high-quality wines, fully respecting the finest agricultural and winemaking traditions."
Tenuta Poggiolo is the family winery, 70 hectares planted almost exclusively with vineyards on the first hills of Castel San Pietro Terme, a border area between Emilia and Romagna.
Here native grapes such as Pignoletto, the gold of our terroir; Sangiovese, the King of Romagna; Albana, with its strong and structured character that it can be vinified both dry and passito; and Trebbiano are grown.
But this land also expertly enhances international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, resulting in wines with a strong personality, which, with the family's winemaking style, become an unexpected expression of the terroir.
Davide Jr. guided me through a tasting of his wine range, but I love to especially recall the Pignoletto. It's been the first time for me to find good Pignoletto outside the Colli Bolognesi DOCG wine area.
Scrigno Pignoletto spumante brut 2024: 100% Pignoletto (Grechetto Gentile). A fine, brilliant perlage that lends volume and persistence to the palate. A soft, fruity, and fresh taste, with an excellent balance between residual sugar and acidity, perfectly balancing the typical bitterness of Pignoletto.
Pignoletto Colli di Imola DOC: 100% Pignoletto (Grechetto Gentile). The nose surprises with a cascade of fragrant petals elegantly intertwined with fruity notes. The palate is full and balanced, offering an intense finish that invites you to sip it to the last drop.
The cellar door is always open to visitors and purchasers. For more info:
